Lucy Jacket Sewing Pattern

The Lucy jacket is inspired by a bed jacket from the MOMU (Museum of Antwerp) Study Collection.

The original was crafted in 1930s from beige silk and featured four pink diamonds on the front panels - a shape echoed in the spiralling rows of topstitching. The geometric forms is also evident in the V-shaped neckline and raglan sleeves with shaped, angled cuffs. Originally, the jacket fastened with a single button with a similar shape to a Vietnamese leaf hat (nón lá). Both the cut and button reflect the Asian influence on Western European fashion during this period. The jacket was likely part of an evening ensemble worn over a floor-length gown, in order to accentuate the shoulders and the figure-hugging, vertical silhouette of the dress. Alternatively, it may have been a boudoir jacket worn in the privacy of the home.

The Lucy jacket is Fibre Mood’s reimagination of this piece. We have retained many of the original elements - a V shaped neckline, the geometric form, slight shaping of the cuff. We include an option for lining and pockets, but you could also simplify and leave them out. Lucy will look lush whatever the fabric ... let your imagination take over!
